Questions & Answers

What should I wear for my session?
  • For me, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. If you're constantly pulling at your dress, teetering on your heels, or tugging on your kiddo's pants to keep them up, that's focus (and in some cases - time!) that we're taking away from your session. If your clothes are too tight or too short, it also might making posing harder! Also, dress for the weather or plan to have a plan to stay warm or cool if your preferred outfit choices don't vibe with the temps that day.
  • That being said, I know you want to look your best and have your whole family put together in a way that looks nice. I totally get that! I'd absolutely love to work with you to plan outfits for your session. In general, I suggest avoiding outfits that are "too matchy" and instead trying to coordinate complementing colors and tones. Avoid shirts that have big logos or decorations on the front (especially true for kiddos - I know your little guy REALLY loves Spiderman - but his favorite hero shirt is probably best saved for another day.) Avoid super bright or neon colors  - those can occasionally photograph poorly depending on the setting and the lighting.
  • PLEASE don't hesitate to ask for my input or advice. Plus, Pinterest has about a million cute ideas for styling your family for a session - so don't be afraid to look there for ideas!

What about newborn sessions? What should we wear?
  • I have everything we need outfit-wise for baby's portion of the session - plenty of fun wraps, hats, bonnets, and tiebacks. However, if you have one or two outfits or items that are important or sentimental, please let me know ahead of time so we can plan to incorporate them into your session.
  • For siblings and parents, the same rules as above for family sessions apply. And if you're comfortable, we may even do some shots of momma in a tank top/dad shirtless with baby - I love to capture those sweet snuggly skin to skin moments!

How do we book a session?
  • Contact me! We will work together to find a date and time that works for everyone. Once we've agreed on a date and time, I will send you a few items. These items MUST be completed to secure your session - your date is not held until I have these pieces.
    • Session contract [This outlines the expectations for the session for both parties and protects us both!]
    • Session retainer [Usually half the total session fee and non-refundable. If something comes up for you and you can't make our session work, we may be able to transfer your retainer to another session at another date and time. Transfers of retainers are only allowed one time, after that, your retainer is forfeited and a new retainer will be required to book your new session.]
    • Questionnaire [I will send you questionnaire to help me get to know you and your family a little bit better. Plus, this helps me to prepare for our session together.]
  • Weekends fill up fast, especially in the fall. If a weekend is best for your family, it's best to reach out sooner rather than later!
  • The best time to shoot outdoors is usually in the evening in the hours immediately prior to sunset. Midday is the worst time to shoot outdoors, so keep this in mind when thinking about your session!
